Digital share of music industry revenue in Denmark 2012-2023
In recent years, the digital share of the music industry revenue steadily increased in Denmark, reaching over 89 percent as of 2023. By comparison, digital music accounted for about 54 percent in 2012. The majority of the revenue came from streaming subscriptions, making up to 90 percent of the Danish music industry’s revenue.
How has the use of online music service increased in the past years?
Similarly, the share of people listening to music via online services grew in Denmark. In 2018, the share of people amounted to 41 percent, which was more than twice as high as in 2013. Additionally, the number of on-demand music streams increased by roughly nine billion in the period from 2012 to 2019, reaching almost 11 billion streams.
What is important for Danes when listening to music online?
Since over half of the Danish population subscribed to digital music services as of 2020, the price was the most important factor when listening to music online. Additionally, the survey found that the ease of making a playlist and the quality of sound were also decisive aspects. Least important for Danes listening to music online were the availability of videos and a virtual assistant, indicated by less than 10 percent of people interviewed.
